Julie W. Allison

Julie W. Allison specializes in healthcare and healthcare industry related litigation & transactions, representing physicians, hospitals, behavioral healthcare providers and treatment centers for chemical dependency. She founded the Law Offices of Julie W. Allison, P.A. in 2006 with the philosophy that her firm would provide clients with solution-oriented, cost-effective representation and personal service, in and out of the courtroom. A former certified Mediator in the State of Florida; Ms. Allison excels at using conflict resolution skills for the benefit of her clients.


Ms. Allison is rated “AV” by the Martindale-Hubbell attorney listing service. She served as the Vice-Chairman of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee, Dade County. During her three-year term, she helped regulate attorney conduct and promoted professionalism among lawyers.

Ms. Allison is a cum laude graduate of Tufts University, where she earned her degree in economics, with a minor in dance. She earned her Juris Doctor degree in 1987 from the University of Miami School of Law, where she was consistently named to the University of Miami Law School Dean’s List.


Ms. Allison has successfully represented physicians and hospitals in complex medical malpractice litigation, business torts and matters relating to Florida's Mental Health Act (Marchman & Baker Acts). Her expertise also includes litigation of contract and collection matters on behalf of healthcare providers. This includes litigation involving breach of contract and benefits claims arising under Florida's Prompt Pay Statute and ERISA. Ms. Allison also provides valuable assistance to her healthcare clients in the areas of risk management, claims review, contract review and negotiations, insurance coverage, litigation management, and compliance with State and Federal statutes governing licensing and healthcare operations. Prior to starting her firm, Ms. Allison successfully represented national managed care organizations and insurers functioning as claims payors and/or network administrators of fully insured or self-funded plans who had been sued on theories of direct negligence and vicarious liability. Her firm now exclusively represents healthcare providers.


Ms. Allison has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1987 and is a member of the Florida Bar Health Care and Litigation Sections. She is also a member of the American Bar Association's Health Law Section. In addition to practicing in Florida's state courts, she is also admitted in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District and Middle District of Florida.


Ms. Allison's speaking engagements include "ERISA Rights and Preemption of Non-Contracted Providers' Health Benefit Claims", a teleconference and live audio Webcast sponsored by the ABA Health Law Section and the ABA Center for Continuing Legal Education (July 25, 2007). She was also the featured speaker at the women's luncheon for the 13th Annual Conference for the New York State Association of Substance Abuse Providers (Fall, 2012).

Anelia P. Shaheed

Anelia Shaheed is a Partner with the Law Offices of Julie W. Allison P.A. Joining the firm in January of 2015, Ms. Shaheed brings a variety of skills and experience in the managed care, insurance reimbursement, provider risk management and other areas involving healthcare providers and insureds.

Ms. Shaheed attended the University of London for her undergraduate studies, where she received her LLB or Bachelor of Law Degree. Subsequently, Ms. Shaheed was admitted to Nova Southeastern University’s Law Program where she graduated Cum Lade in July of 2012. During law school she was an active member of the Moot Court Society and presented at the International Caribbean Court of Justice. Subsequently Ms. Shaheed was admitted to the Florida Bar in April of 2013. She is currently a member of American Bar Association, Caribbean Bar Association as well as the National Health Lawyers Association.


While pursuing her law degree, Ms. Shaheed was employed with a nationally recognized health billing company. During her seven year tenure, she attained the position of Chief Operating Officer and eventually General Counsel upon her admission to the bar. Her employment experience provided substantial insight and involvement within the areas that health care providers experienced with insurance, reimbursement, Medicare and Medicare, risk management, and similarly situated areas. Additionally, Ms. Shaheed has worked with providers relating to payor audits and medical necessity criteria and implementation. As the Chief Operations Officer, Ms. Shaheed also learned the operational intricacies of managing and employing over 150+ staff members and interacting with providers and hospitals, giving her valuable insight into the fiscally productive operation of a business.


As a specialized associate with the firm, Ms. Shaheed focuses her practice on overpayment demands, payor issues, and billing and claims problems with third party payors. She has successfully negotiated reimbursement issues with payors such as Cigna, Humana, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Additionally, Ms. Shaheed provides expert guidance on industry issues with compliance, statutory regulations, accreditation and licensure standards and payor requirements for reimbursement.

Ms. Shaheed has presented educational workshops and topics, including but not limited to the Health Insurance Reform and the Affordable Care Act and the Implementation of Mental Health Parity Act, as well as Risk and Compliance Management for Healthcare providers. She has also been actively involved in championing patient’s rights and has worked with national payors such as Cigna, Blue Cross of Michigan and United Healthcare to change practices such as paying to the patient and/or failing to recognize established medical criteria. She has presented at the Cape Cod Symposium on Addictive Disorders, West Coast Symposium on Addictive Disorders, AXIS Conference, NCAD Annual Conference, NAATP Annual Conference and Foundations Moment of Change Annual Conference.
